There must be dignity in death,\u201d ani Fortun.<\/p>\n<p>Nilagdaan \u00a0kahapon ng Department of Justice (DOJ) ang isang declaration of cooperation kasama ang United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), na nagtalaga sa University of the Philippines (UP) Manila bilang pasilidad na pagdadalhan ng mga labi ng persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) para isailalim sa autopsy at death investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Naging kalakaran sa BuCor na idiretso sa punerarya ang mga labi ng PDL at agad na ineembalsamo ito bago pa man isailalim sa autopsy sakaling may kuwestiyon sa pagkamatay ng detenido.<\/p>\n<p>Sa ilalim ng kasunduan, ang UNODC ang magbibigay ng \u201cequipment, expertise, and procedures in keeping with international standards to ensure the integrity of the forensic evidence gathered and its chain of custody, in case such findings are needed in judicial proceedings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inatasan ang DOJ na kagyat na dalhin ang mga labi ng PDLs mula sa bilangguan na pinamamahalaan ng BuCor sa mga itinalagang pasilidad ng College of Medicine ng UP Manila.<\/p>\n<p>Saklaw din ng partnership, hindi lamang NBP sa Muntinlupa City kundi maging sa Correctional Institution for Women sa Mandaluyong.<\/p>\n<p>Batay sa talaan ng BuCor, umabot na sa 4,636 PDLs ang nasawi sa bilangguan mula 2020 at ang pangunahing sanhi ay tuberculosis (TB).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s very telling. If there\u2019s TB among the PDLs, your (BuCor) workers are just as exposed. These people were never diagnosed, much less treated. You can imagine the pain they experienced before they died,\u201d sabi ni Fortun.<\/p>\n<p>May mga kaso rin aniya na ang cause of death na idineklara sa death certificate ng PDLs ay malayo sa lumabas na resulta ng kanilang forensic analysis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a way to get answers. Let\u2019s learn from these deaths.
