Mariing kinondena ng Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) ang red-tagging laban sa mga miyembro ng National Union of Peoples\u2019 Lawyers (NUPL), tinawag itong lantad na pag-atake sa rule of law at direktang pagtama sa puso ng hustisya.<\/p>\n
\u201cAn attack on one of us is an attack on the administration of justice. When an agent of justice has been subjected to silence and harassment, there is fear, and when there is fear, the entire justice system is undermined – there is curtailment of truth and justice,\u201d pahayag ng IBP.<\/p>\n
Nagtungo kahapon ang NUPL kasama ang iba pang human rights lawyers sa Korte Suprema upang magsumite ng liham na humihiling ng mga legal na mekanismong proteksiyon para sa mga abogado at human rights defenders laban sa harassment at intimidasyon.<\/p>\n
Tinukoy ng NUPL na sa isang kasong nakabinbin sa isang Regional Trial Court sa Metro Manila, isang listahan ng umano\u2019y \u201cunderground mass organizations at front organizations\u201d ng CPP-NPA-NDF, na tahasang binanggit ang NUPL, ay iniharap kamakailan bilang ebidensya ng abogado ng isa sa mga akusado.<\/p>\n
Ipinahayag ng IBP ang pakikiisa sa petisyon ng NUPL at binigyang-diin na ang mga abogado ay tagapangalaga ng mga batayang karapatan gaya ng karapatan sa makatarungang paglilitis, kalayaan sa pamamahayag, at kalayaan sa asosasyon.<\/p>\n
