KINONDENA ng Presidential Task Force on Media Security ang pagpatay sa dating mayor ng Kalibo at pangulo ng Publishers Association of the Philippines Inc. (PAPI) na si Juan “Johnny” Dayang.

Si Dayang, 89-anyos, dating kolumnista ng Balita at Tempo, ay binaril sa kanyang bahay sa Kalibo, Aklan Martes ng gabi.

“We are closely coordinating with all concerned agencies to ensure the immediate resolution of this case,” sabi ni PTFOMS Executive Director at Undersecretary Jose Torres Jr.

“We stand in solidarity with the media community as we mourn the passing of Mr. Dayang, a figure regarded as a pillar of Philippine journalism whose contributions greatly enriched our democratic discourse,” dagdag niya.

“His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of journalists in their pursuit of truth and justice.”

Ayon sa Kalibo police, nanonood ng TV sa loob ng kanyang bahay ang biktima nang biglang dumating ang suspek na nakasuot ng itim na jacket at naka-helmet at pinagbabaril ang biktima at mabilis na tumakas sakay ng isang motorsiklo.

Idineklarang dead on arrival sa Aklan Provincial Hospital ang biktima dahil sa tama ng bala sa kanyang likod.

Patuloy ang hot pursuit operation ng Kalibo PNP at pagtukoy sa suspek at motibo sa nangyaring krimen. (ROSE NOVENARIO)
