SUNTOK sa buwan ang hirit ni Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano sa gobyerno ng Pilipinas na makipagtulungan sa International Criminal Court (ICC) para sa interim release ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte.
Ayon kay Bicol Saro party-list Rep. Terry Ridon wala nang responsibilidad ang Pilipinas na makipagtulungan sa ICC matapos nitong kumalas sa Rome Statute.
“The obligation to cooperate with the ICC ceased on 17 March 2019, one year after the pronouncement of former President Rodrigo Duterte that the Philippines is withdrawing from the Rome Statute,” sabi ni Ridon.
“Non-party states, such as the Philippines, are under no obligation to cooperate with the International Criminal Court, including matters relating to the interim release of detained persons,” dagdag niya.
Si Cayetano mismo aniya ang nagpahayag noon bilang Foreign Affairs Secretary na, “Our decision to pull out of the Court is a principled stand against those who politicize and weaponize human rights.”
Nilinaw ni Ridon, kung hindi inalis ng gobyernong Duterte ang Pilipinas sa Rome Statute, posibleng mangyari ang hiling na sa Pilipinas o house arrest sa isang foreign facility ng Pilipinas para sa detenidong dating pangulo.
Si Duterte ang tinamaan ng ginawa niyang desisyon na mag-withdraw sa ICC.
“To be clear, if the Duterte government did not exit the Rome Statute, an interim release to the Philippines, or a house arrest within a foreign PH facility, would have been a real possibility,” aniya.
“This is not a possibility today as a result of the former President’s decision to withdraw from the ICC,” dagdag ng kongresista. (ROSE NOVENARIO)
