HINDI dapat iasa sa panawagan ng publiko ang pagbuo ng impeachment court, ito’y mandato ng Senado alinsunod sa Saligang Batas.
Buwelta ito ni House Deputy Minority Leader at ACT Teachers Party-list Representative France Castro sa paninindigan ni Senate President Chiz Escudero sa pagpapaliban sa impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte hanggang Hunyo 2.
“The convening of an impeachment court is not contingent on public clamor – it is a constitutional mandate. Senate President Escudero misses the point entirely when he asks ‘what clamor?’ This is not a cheering contest but a matter of constitutional duty,” sabi ni Castro.
“Hindi naman cheering contest ang impeachment. It is their constitutional duty and it would be a disservice to the people who we ought to serve,” dagdag niya.
Ipinunto ni Castro na mas naging kritikal ang pangangailangang magpatawag ng impeachment court dahil sa mga hakbang kamakailan ni VP Duterte na itigil ang paglilitis sa pamamagitan ng mga kwestyonableng legal na taktika.
“The fact that the Vice President is working to stop the convening of the impeachment court makes our call all the more important. The Senate should all more fulfill this duty. Further delays might benefit the impeached VP who is exploring various legal remedies to stop the trial,” paliwanag ni Castro.
Binigyang-diin ng teacher-solon na ang responsibilidad sa Konstitusyon ng Senado ay higit sa mga tanong ng popular na demand o timing.
“Ang Saligang Batas ay nagtakda ng malinaw na mga pamamaraan para sa mga paglilitis sa impeachment. Hindi ito isang usapin kung mayroong sapat na sigawan – ito ay tungkol sa pagtupad sa ating mga tungkulin bilang mga pampublikong tagapaglingkod alinsunod sa batas.” (ROSE NOVENARIO)
