Nanawagan ang House of Representatives nitong Sabado sa Senado na ipagpaliban muna ang pagboto kung itutuloy ba ang impeachment trial laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte, kasunod ng pahayag na maghahain ang Kamara ng Motion for Reconsideration sa desisyon ng Korte Suprema.
Ayon kay House spokesperson Atty. Princess Abante, hindi pa pinal ang desisyon ng Korte Suprema na idineklarang labag sa Konstitusyon ang Articles of Impeachment laban kay Duterte.
“We call on our dear Senators to exercise prudence and patience, and to allow the judicial process to reach its rightful conclusion,” sabi ni Abante.
“The House remains committed to the rule of law and will exhaust all legal remedies to protect its constitutional mandate—and to ensure that accountability is not casually brushed aside,” dagdag niya.
Binigyang-diin ni Abante na may factual errors sa desisyon ng Korte Suprema, kabilang ang maling pahayag na walang plenary vote sa pag-transmit ng ika-apat na reklamo sa Senado—bagay na taliwas sa opisyal na tala ng Kamara.
“Let us be clear: the decision of the Supreme Court is not yet final. The House of Representatives, as the body vested by the Constitution with the exclusive power and authority to initiate an impeachment, will file a Motion for Reconsideration soon. This is a matter of constitutional right and institutional integrity,” ani Abante.
Nagbabala ang Kamara na ang anumang agarang aksyon ng Senado—tulad ng pagboto upang itigil ang impeachment trial—ay maaaring ituring na paglabag sa due process at isang “shortcut” na pampulitika na sumisira sa papel ng Kamara sa ilalim ng Konstitusyon.
Noong nakaraang linggo, bumoto ang Korte Suprema ng 13-0-2 upang ideklarang labag sa Konstitusyon ang impeachment complaint, dahil sa paglabag sa one-year bar rule at sa karapatan ni Duterte sa due process.
Gayunman, nilinaw ng Korte na hindi nito ina-absuwelto si Duterte at maaaring magsampa muli ng reklamo simula Pebrero 6, 2026.
Ayon kay Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, tatalakayin ng Senado ang desisyon ng Korte Suprema sa Miyerkules, Agosto 6.
Samantala, sinabi ni Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada na 19 hanggang 20 senador ang posibleng sumunod sa desisyon ng Korte.
“Any premature action-such as a Senate vote effectively abandoning the impeachment trial—may be interpreted as a disregard of due process. Worse, it may be construed as a political shortcut that undermines the constitutional role of the House,” paliwanag ni Abante.
Sa huli, iginiit ng Kamara ang kahalagahan ng pagpapanatili ng integridad ng proseso ng impeachment.
“Ito ay tungkol sa pagtatanggol sa ating demokratikong institusyon at sa sistemang checks and balances na nakapaloob sa ating Konstitusyon,” pagtatapos ni Abante. (ZIA LUNA)
