Buwelta ito ni Bagong Alyansang Makabayan president Renato Reyes Jr. sa panukala ni Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr., pinuno ng Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU), na magtatag ng Department of Peace na papalit sa OPAPRU.
Kinuwestiyon ni Reyes ang estado ng usapang pangkapayaan sa National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) at kung bakit hanggang sa ngayon ay wala pang nabubuong government peace panel.
“Added bureaucracy should not be the main concern now. Where is the peace talks with the NDFP? Why no GRP peace panel until now?” sabi ni Reyes.
Duda si Reyes sa mga prayoridad ng isang Department of Peace gayong walang makahulugang pag-usad sa peace talks.
“A Department of Peace yet no meaningful advance in peace talks? What are the priorities here?” ani Reyes.
Matatandaang noong 28 Nobyembre 2023 ay magkasabay na inanunsyo ng Malakanyang at ng NDFP ang posibleng pagbuhay sa pormal na negosasyong pangkapayapaan ,matapos aprobahan ang isang Joint Communique na nilagdaan makaraang ang anim na taon mula ibasura ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang peace talks.
Nakasaad sa communique na ang mga talakayan ay bunsod ng inisyatiba ni dating Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Emmanuel Bautista na personal na kinausap ni noo’y NDFP chief political Consultant Jose Maria Sison. (ROSE NOVENARIO)
