HINAMON ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. si Education Secretary Sonny Angara na itaas ang kalidad ng edukasyon.
Sa kanyang ikatlong State of the Nation Address (SONA) ay binigyan diin ni Marcos Jr. ang kahalagahan nang pag-angat ng skills ng mga guro, pagtaas sa kanilang sahod at benepisyo.
Nais ni Marcos Jr. na ipatupad ang reporma sa edukasyon sa pamamagitan ng teknolohiya.
“We are working towards the day when all students will be equipped with computers, smart TVs, essential programs, digital books, and access to reliable power and the internet,” sabi niya sa kanyang talumpati.
Wala na rin aniyang public school teacher na magreretiro na Teacher 1 lamang at mabubura na rin ang “Utang-Tagging” sa mga guro.
“Hindi magiging hadlang ang kanilang pagkaka-utang upang makapag-renew ng kanilang mga lisensya,” aniya.
‘Education reforms,’ kapos
KAPOS at hindi tumutugon sa ugat ng krisis sa edukasyon ang inihayag na “education reforms’ ni Marcos Jr, ayon kay Vladimer Quetua, Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Chairperson.
“While we welcome any effort to improve our education system, the measures outlined by President Marcos Jr. In his latest State of the Nation Address (SONA) fall far short of what is truly needed to address the crisis in Philippine education,” yon kay Quetua.
“The focus on ‘educational reform through technology’ and resolving textbook issues, while important, does not tackle the root causes of our education woes,” dagdag niya.
Iginiit niya na ang tunay na reporma ay dapat magsimula sa makabuluhang pagtaas ng badyet sa edukasyon.
“If the administration is serious about improving education quality, it must double the education budget. This is crucial to address the chronic shortages in classrooms, facilities, and learning materials, as well as to properly compensate our educators.”
Binigyan diin niya na walang binanggit si Marcos Jr. na dagdag sahod ng mga guro na matagal na nilang hinihiling.
“Maghihintay na naman ba ang guro ng isang taon na walang taas sahod?” tanong ni Quetua
Welcome naman aniya sa kanila ang teaching allowance, insurance, at ‘special hardship’ allowance ngunit hindi nito matutumbasan ang nakabubuhay na suweldo na angkop sa trabaho ng guro.
Ipinunto ni Quetua na ang pagtaas ng teaching allowance ay resulta ng kolektibong aksyon ng mga guro at hindi regalo sa kanila ng gobyerno.
“Let us be clear: the doubling of the teaching allowance was not a gift from the government. It was won through the persistent struggle and collective action of teachers and the education sector. We will continue to fight for our rights and for quality education for all,” aniya.
Kahit positibong hakbang ang pag-alis ng ‘utang-tagging’ para makapag-renew ng lisensya ang mga guro, nanindigan ang ACT na hindi ito sagot sa mga dinaranas na kakulangan sa pananalapi ng mga guro.
“Allowing indebted teachers to renew their licenses is helpful, but it doesn’t solve the problem of why teachers are forced into debt in the first place. We need comprehensive solutions that include better pay, improved working conditions, and adequate support for our educators,” wika ni Quetua.
Nanawagan ang ACT sa administrasyong Marcos Jr. na lumahok sa makatotohanang dayalogo sa mga organisasyon ng mga guro at education advocates upang makabuo ng isang komprehensibo at well- funded plan para tugunan ang krisis sa edukasyon at tiyakin ang de-kalidad na edukasyon para sa lahat ng estudyanteng Pinoy.
