ISANG kabalintunaan na habang si Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbng” Marcos Jr. ay magpapasasa sa P1.408 bilyong travel fund sa 2024, nakaamba ang mararanasang krisis sa transportasyon ng mga pasahero kapag hindi binawi ng gobyerno ang public utility vehicle (PUV) consolidation sa katapusan ng 2023.
“As the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) itself recently admitted 73.5% of PUJs in Metro Manila have not undergone consolidation, which is equivalent to over 30,000 jeepney units in NCR alone and around 68,000 units still unconsolidated in the whole country,” ayon kay ACT Teachers partylist Rep. France Castro.
Ang napipinto aniyang krisis ay inaasahang magkakaroon ng matinding epekto sa transportation system at ekonomiya ng bans ana direktang makakaapekto sa may 28.5 milyong komyuter habang magpapasasa sa pagbiyahe sa loob ng bansa si Marcos Jr. gamit ang pera ng bayan.
“This impending crisis is expected to have a profound impact on the country’s transportation system and economy, directly affecting approximately 28.5 million commuters while Pres. Marcos would again be jetsetting using taxpayer’s money,” ani Castro.
Binigyan diin ng teacher solon na ang pagpilit na ipatupad ang PUV consolidation ay nagsisilbing prente sa phaseout ng mga jeepney, pag-alis sa kabuhayan ng mga tsuper at paglipat sa kontrol sa malalaking transportation corporation at foreign entities.
Ito aniya ang pipelay sa sistema ng transportasyon at ekonomiya ng bansa at may negatibong epekto sa Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) gaya ng small-scale operators.
“The resistance against mandatory consolidation is justified, as drivers and operators grapple with meeting the requirements and refuse to surrender their jeepney units, fully aware that they face an uncertain future under a commercialized ‘modernization’ program that favors big business. The impending mass transport crisis clearly demonstrates the failure of this forced consolidation scheme,” giit ni Rep. Castro.
Hinimok ng mambabatas ang administrasyong Marcos Jr. na pakinggan ang hinaing ng transport sector at magmalasakit sa sitwasyon ng drivers at operators na direktang tatamaan ng phaseout ng jeepneys.
Ang P1.408 bilyong travel fund sa 2024 ni Marcos Jr. ay mas mataas ng 58 porsiyento sa kanyang travel budget na P893.57 milyon ngayong 2023.
Mula maluklok sa Palasyo noong Hunyo 30, 2022 ay 19 beses nang lumabas ng bansa si Marcos Jr, 12 ay ngayong taon. (ZIA LUNA)
