KINOMPIRMA ni House committee on legislative franchises chairperson Gus Tambunting na tinukoy na ni SMNI program host Jeffrey “Ka Eric” Celiz ang kanyang source sa maling impormasyon na gumasta ng P1.8 bilyon si House Speaker Martin Romualdez sa kanyang foreign trips noong 2022.
Naganap ang rebelasyon nang bisitahin ni Tambunting sina Celiz at Lorraine Badoy sa kanilang detention facility sa Mababang Kapulungan.
“I will discuss the source with the committee [members], and the Speaker and the Senate president. We have to validate [what was told to me]. [He said it was] one source,”
Ngunit sa kabila nito’y hindi pa rin aniya garantiya na makalalaya na mula sa pagkapiit sa Mababang Kapulungan sina Celiz at Badoy.
“Ibang usapan po, huwag nating ihalo. If we decide to give furlough to them, it doesn’t mean the SMNI issue goes with it. [Giving the name is] one step forward. Kapag ang binigay po niyang tao ay talagang isang buhay na tao, that would lighten their guilt,” sabi ni Tambunting.
“Their request for furlough is separate from the resolution requesting SMNI shutdown,” dagdag niya.
Hiniling ni Celiz na mabisita ang kanyang inang may sakit.
Nauna rito’y inaprobahan ng House committee on legislative franchises ang isang resolusyon na nananawagan sa National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) na suspendihin ang operasyon ng SMNI sa ilalim ng Swara Sug Media Corporation franchise na ipinagkaloob ng Kongreso noong 2019.
May natuklasan umano ang komite na paglabag ng SMNI sa mga probisyon ng prangkisa nito lalo na ang Section 4 na nagsasaad na ang grantee ay may “responsibility to the public not to use its station or facilities for the dissemination of deliberately false information or willful misrepresentation to the detriment of the public interest.”
Nabisto rin sa imbestigasyon ng Kamara na nilabag ng SMNI ang kasunduan nito sa Movie And Television Review And Classification Board (MTRCB) na itigil ang pag-broadcast ng mga pagbabanta ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte laban kay House Deputy Minority Leader France Castro. (NINO ACLAN)
