Boac, Marinduque – Nagpapatuloy pa rin ang adhikain ng Marinduque Council for Environmental Concerns (MACEC) upang ideklara ang Marinduque bilang “mining free” sa halos na tatlong dekada pagkatapos itatag ito. Ginagabayan ng bisyon, misyon, layunin at mga salalayang kahalagahan.
Noon July 27, 1996 ay itinatag ang MACEC bilang tugon ng mga mamamayan sa sakuna ng basurang mina at pagpupunyagi ng Diocese of Marinduque partikular ang Social Action Commission nito. Ayon sa pubmat nito, “Vision: a clean, bountiful and life-giving environment in the island-province of Marinduque which benefits the present and future generation.”
Dagdag pa sa nabanggit ng makalikasang pangkat, ang misyon at tunguhin nite ay ang mga sumusunod: massively disseminate true, factual and relevant information on relation issues and concerns; launch massive campaigns and advocacies on environment, climate justice and disaster risks reduction; initiate and/or actively participate in efforts to arouse, organize and mobilize men and women, other sectors and communities; directly reorganize, expand, and strengthen barangay chapters; actively participate and engage with governance at different levels; promote and protect the interests and the rights of the people to a clean, productive and life-giving environment; establish community and family-based alternative and and sustainable livelihoods; implement programs that would promote resiliency of communities; at forge partnership with other organizations or agencies of government and the civil society.
Batay ang patuloy na pagkilos ng MACEC sa mga salalayang kahalagahan nitong celebratory (mapagdiwang), vigilant and critical (mapagbantay at mapagsuri), decisive and steadfast (mapagpasya at matatag) at dedication and volunteerism (mapagtalaga at mapaglaan ng sarili). Kamakailan ay nagsagawa ng mga Chapter Assembly sa mga Parokya ng Banal na sa Krus sa Santa Cruz, San Jose sa Gasan, San Rafael Arkanghel sa Boac, Our Lady of Guadalupe sa Torrijos, Batang Hesus sa Buenavista at San Isidro Labrador sa Mogpog. Nagkaroon din ng pagtatanim sa Brgy. Capayang, Mogpog para sa “Greening Cu, Au at Ag Mined-out areas” bilang bioremediation na proyekto kasama ang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas Los Baños at Marinduque State University campus ng mga taga-DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources), DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways), MENRO (municipal environment and natural office) at taga barangay.
