UMALMA ang National Union of Journalists of the Philippines at Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines sa pahiwatig ng Chinese Foreign Ministry na ang mga mamamahayag na kasama ng mga resupply mission sa West Philippine Sea ay minanipula ang mga video na kanilang nai-record para gumawa ng mga kahindik-hindik na balita at ipakita ang Pilipinas bilang biktima.
Sa isang kalatas, sinabi ng NUJP na taliwas sa mga pahayag ng ministry sa mga social media account nito, ang mga mamamahayag sa mga misyong ito ay nagbibigay ng on-site na mga ulat ng mga insidente sa West Philippine Sea, kadalasan kahit nakabingit sa panganib ang kanilang buhay.
“Except for operational and national security considerations, state forces have no say in the production and editorial decisions on these reports,” anang NUJP
“In reporting on the West Philippine Sea, the media cannot avoid referring to incidents they witnessed, the Philippine position on the WPS, the 2016 Hague ruling, and the impact China’s actions in our waters affect our fisherfolk and coastal communities,” dagdag ng grupo.
Para sa FOCAP, ang mga pahayag ng Foreign Ministry spokesman and Embassy ay isang pang-iinsulto sa integridad ng mga mamamahayag at isang nakaaalarmang pagtatangkang busalan ang isang malayang pamamahayag.
“A free and independent press reports not what they are told, but what they observe, framed by historical and political context. The footgae seen in the press is vetted by multiple sources and newsrooms, The work of journalists, including members of FOCAP and especially when carried by multiple media outlets, speaks for itself,” sabi ng FOCAP sa isang statement.
Tiniyak ng grupo na hindi sila matatakot sa mga pagbabanta at pagtatangkang dungisan ang reputasyon ng kanilang mga miyembro at kanilang ipagpapatuloy ang matapang na coverage sa mga kaganapan sa South China Sea at iba pang bahagi ng rehiyon.
