Inanunsyo ng prosekusyon ng Mababang Kapulungan nitong Martes na hindi na nila ihaharap si Office of the Vice President chief-of-staff at Undersecretary Zuleika Lopez bilang saksi sa impeachment trial ni Pangalawang Pangulo Sara Duterte, na tinawag nilang “redundant” at “sobrang ebidensya.”
Ayon kay private prosecutor Lorna Kapunan, ang testimonya nina Lopez at Capt. Belinda Bello hinggil sa umano’y mabibigat na pagbabanta ni Duterte ay uulit lamang sa ebidensyang naibigay na nina National Bureau of Investigation Senior Agent John Mark Calilung at Regional Director Jeremy Lotoc.
Si Bello, opisyal ng House Legislative Security Bureau, ay sangkot sa seguridad nang bumisita si Duterte sa Kamara noong Nobyembre 23, 2024 , araw na umano’y nagbanta siya laban kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Unang Ginang Liza Araneta Marcos, at dating Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
“In the last four trial days, we’ve had several hours of legal calisthenics… After hearing the two competent and credible witnesses, it is the wisdom of the public prosecutors that we find it totally unnecessary, redundant, and a surplusage to still present Atty. Zuleika Lopez as well as Capt. Belinda Bello,” ani Kapunan.
Si Lopez ay orihinal na nakatakdang iharap bilang hostile witness para sa Article IV ng impeachment charges, na nag-aakusa kay Duterte ng “betrayal of public trust” sa pamamagitan ng mabibigat na pagbabanta laban sa mga pangunahing opisyal ng pamahalaan. # (RRN)
