MANAIG ang ‘unli-corruption with impunity’ ang kursunadang mangyari ni Vice President Sara Duterte kaya hiniling sa Korte Suprema na ipatigil ang impeachment trial laban sa kanya, sabi ni dating Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares.
“Ang hakbang ng Bise Presidente Duterte na humingi ng TRO sa Korte Suprema ay isang pagtatangkang takasan ang pananagutan niya. Ang masama pa, lalong na encourage ang mga impeachable officials na magnakaw sa kabang yaman pag hindi natutuloy ang mga impeachment na katulad nito,” ayon kay Colmenares.
Nag-iba aniya ang tono ni VP Sara mula sa dating pahayag na “welcome” sa kanya ang impeachment dahil masasagot na niya ang mga akusasyon laban sa kanya, ngayo’y nais na niyang pigilan na dumaan sa paglilitis ng impeachment court.
“Her filing a petition to stop the impeachment proceedings is not only another usual Duterte turnaround, but also an effort to escape accountability for her failure to explain where at least Php 125 million given her went. In sum, this is nothing more than an effort to derail the only accountability mechanism against a public official who cannot account for public funds in their custody by halting any Senate move to convene an impeachment court pending the decision of the Supreme Court,” dagdag ni Colmenares.
Taliwas aniya sa sinabi ni VP Sara sa petisyon sa Korte Suprema na labag sa one year ban ang inihaing ikaapat na impeachment complaint laban sa kanya dahil may nauna nang tatlong isinampang reklamo, giit ni Colmenares, ang ipinagbabawal lamang ng Konstitusyon ay kapag pagkatapos na ang isang reklamo ay sinimulan.
Paliwanag niya, lahat ng naunang tatlong impeachment complaint ay hindi pa nai-refer sa Justice Committee kaya’t hindi itinuring na sinimulan kaya’t walang paglabag sa isang taong ban sa Saligang Batas.
Si Colmenares ay nagsilbing isa sa public prosecutors sa impeachment cases laban kina Ombudsman Merceditas Guttierrez at Chief Justice Renato Corona.
“The Senate, however, should not delay the impeachment process merely because a petition was filed with the Supreme Court. The Senate should continue the impeachment process, including the preliminaries before the start of the trial, unless restrained by the Supreme Court. Without a TRO, the impeachment should continue,” pagtatapos niya. (ROSE NOVENARIO)
